There are over 5600 farmers from different ethnic groups in the Kivu Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, producing some of the finest coffee in Africa. After years of conflict and civil war, their Fairtrade-certified coffee promotes working together for a better future.

They live in a beautiful but very difficult place. Their small communities are remote, scattered amongst the highlands of the mountains surrounding Lake Kivu in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The coffee grows at an altitude of 1460m to over 2000 meters above sea level.

The people of the Congo have lived through civil war and endured great poverty for many years, but since forming the cooperative Sopacdi, despite it’s challenges, they also feel full of hope. For the first time there are good buyers for the coffee from this part of the world. The homes there are basic, without electricity, running water and other amenities. But their families are back together and they are re-building communities.

We know you care about being a force for good on the planet. Buying this coffee is an expression of that desire plus it’s really good!
